Acting & Theater

Every Monday and Thursday 19.00-22.00

Actor, Theatrologist and Director Vivetta Lainioti teaches

The Acting & Theater course

It is addressed to those who want to be involved in the theater as amateurs or to those who want to take their first steps in it.

Although this section is aimed at amateurs, we have noticed that some of our students make the decision to start their professional training at the Theater in Greece or abroad. In fact, the careful work, the preparation and the rehearsals of the play but also the deep study of monologues benefit the students who decide to take exams in the drama schools of their choice.

COURSE OBJECTIVE

Acting & theater lessons for amateurs aim to entertain and improve social skills in a "safe" and controlled environment through theatrical games and exercises. As the school year progresses, all members learn and are slowly led to improvisations, role-playing and rehearsals that, if they wish, can lead to a performance in a large professional and central theater in Zurich and Switzerland in general and beyond. !

It is important to emphasize that the exercises taught in this course are no different from those taught in drama schools. There are no exercises for amateurs and professionals at the EPI SKINIS School!

But what each of them will gain from this process, depends - we believe - mainly on what he is willing to give her. If he is willing to explore, to dare to leave the acquaintance's safety for a while, to trust his teammate and team, to listen, to open up, to see things - others and himself - with a slightly different look, and to he has the courage to be "exposed" then he will be rewarded with everything the theater has to give him. And believe us it's worth as much as ever ....

The course    is divided into three teaching cycles

so that all members can be integrated into the group more easily.

   The  AD cycle will include

  • Acquaintance Exercises

  • Trust Exercises

  • Improvisation Exercises

  • Theatrical game

  The  B 'cycle will include

  • How do I build a role?

  • How do I make a resume for a role?

  • Acting methods such as Stanislavski, Grotesque etc.

  • Study of monologues and solo works

  •   The  Γ ' cycle will include

  • Orthophony and Vocal Exercises

  • Approach to Physical Theater with a simple contact method.

  • Project selection,   rehearsals   & performance setup

Representations

The performances at the end of the year take place only if we feel that all the members of the team really want it and are ready to be able to respond and benefit from the experience. In other words, it is not an end in itself. Also, due to the seriousness with which we approach the project, it is self-evident that more hours of work are required until the performance, since the lessons are turned into rehearsals! Finally, all our productions are with regular entry which means that they operate on a highly professional level!

Presence

Creating a stable team is extremely important for us. That's why we make it clear from the beginning that this lesson does not work like, say, lessons in a gym or a dance school. Attendance is mandatory in every lesson and we ask everyone  consistency and respect for the space, teachers and especially classmates.

Course Benefits

  • Self -confidence: By presenting ourselves in front of others, we begin to trust our ideas and abilities. Exhibition in front of our team helps us to recognize, understand and accept aspects of our character!

  • Imagination: The basic condition for doing theater. Without walls, defenses and obstacles we are left to our inner imagination! After all, as  Einstein used to say  "Imagination is more important than knowledge!"

  • Empathy: Playing roles, getting into each other's shoes, trying to live different situations, foreign to us, opens a new world for us. Understanding and empathy for others through the texts increases .. It makes us see things with a different eye .. and therefore we become better people! _Cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_

  • Collaboration: The theater combines the creative ideas and skills of all those involved in it. This collaborative process includes presentation of ideas, discussion, negotiation, rehearsal and presentation. In front of an audience. Actions that often frighten us. It requires knowing when and how to take the initiative and when and how to leave control and initiative to someone else. It requires trust in the team, the resignation of the "I" and the strengthening of the "we". Theater is a team "sport" and only if the whole team rests on its feet can something really powerful happen.

  • Concentration: By playing high-demand games, rehearsing, and then presenting our work, we develop a sustained ability to concentrate body, mind, and voice. And the ability to do it all at once.

  • Communication: Theater enhances the verbal and non-verbal expression of ideas. With a body more comfortable in space and with freer movement and breathing, the messages pass and are expressed by the body effortlessly. Improves voice projection, articulation, speech flow and persuasion. Through the exercises we learn to listen and observe what is really happening, what we are really saying, and not what we think, we are afraid, we hope what is being said. We learn to observe and "read" the body and what is "hidden" behind the words.

  • Flexibility & Fitness: Awareness of our body helps in better posture, reducing muscle tension. Unnecessary grip is reduced, balance, coordination, and flexibility are improved. Thus, the body moves more relaxed. Through improvisations we learn to think and find solutions quickly, this leads to greater flexibility and adaptability in our lives.

  • Pleasure but also Confidence: Defensive behaviors, caution, criticism, and prejudice decrease. When we courageously, in a "safe" environment, take risks, open up, let others "see" us, "play" behaviors and emotions that we usually do not dare, and "connect" with others, and confidence in our abilities increases .   Theater brings pleasure, laughter and promotes a free playful mood. Promotes substantial human contact. Relieves stress and anxiety.

  • Relaxation and Self-Discipline: The process of translating ideas into action and supporting them requires practice, discipline and perseverance. Through movement and breathing exercises, activation of the imagination, physical activation, harmonious movement, but also the game itself is achieved. This is a simple way to release tension!

  • Aesthetics: Through the involvement with theater and human function, the appreciation of this art definitely increases.
